Potential is significant for improving energy efficiency in heating and cooling. Growth in renewable sources of heating and cooling is one of the pillars of the 2020 energy objectives set by the EU.

REF-E monitors changes in policy, legislation and regulation for the heating and cooling sector through mono-client and multi-client projects impact assessments.

REF-E carry out analysis on the evolution, market penetration, and competitiveness of heating and cooling technologies, with a focus on market segments that offer higher potential for energy efficiency and the use of renewables. Such activity is key to the interpretation and forecasting of changes in the technology and energy mix, and thus to identify opportunities for - and potential impacts on - market players and the economy as a whole.

The annual survey on installation of heating and cooling systems represents one of the tools for the analysis. This has been carried out since 2012.
